Commissions and Fees:  commissions sales personnel, wholesalers

Cost of Goods Sold:  cost of products sold

Delivery and Shipping:  cost to mail and ship products; freight costs

Dues and Subscriptions:  dues to professional organizations and magazines specifically oriented to your business and/or trade

Educational Expense:  seminars, classes, shows, conferences

Employee Benefits:  health insurance, disability insurance, matching retirement benefits

Fuel:  fuel for equipment (ie:  lawnmowers, towmotors), vehicle fuel, if not using mileage method

Home Office Expense:  In a day care setting, the area applicable to home office expense is based on the total square footage of the home compared to the square footage used for the day care and the number of hours per day the day care operates.   A percentage of utility bills, home owners insurance, property taxes, mortgage interest, refinance fees, repairs and maintenance, and cleaning supplies are deductible.

Interest:  interest paid on business loans, credits cards, equipment loans

Conservation Expenses:  money paid to conserve soil and water or to prevent erosion of land used for farming (ie:  leveling, grading, conditioning, construction or control of drainage ditches, earthen dams etc).  Deduction cannot exceed 25% of farm income, but excess can be carried forward.

Custom Hire or Machine Work:  amounts paid to operator who furnishes his own equipment to perform for you

Dues and Subscriptions:  dues to professional organizations and magazines specifically oriented to your business and/or trade

Educational Expense:  seminars, classes, shows, conferences

Employee Benefits:  health insurance, disability insurance, matching retirement benefits

Farm labor:  amount paid for farm labor

Feed: grains, hay

Fertilizers and lime

Freight & trucking:  cost of transporting livestock after sold.  Cost of transporting livestock just purchased  for resale is included in the cost basis of the livestock.

Fuel:  fuel for farm equipment, vehicle fuel, if not using mileage method

Gifts:  gifts to clients and other business associates

Home Office Expense:   A percentage of utility bills, home owners insurance, property taxes, mortgage interest, refinance fees, repairs and maintenance, and cleaning supplies are deductible.  This is based on a specific room in the home used only for accounting and business purposes.

Fuel:  Diesel

Gifts:  gifts to clients and other business associates

Home Office Expense:  A separate room in your home to do business or accounting.  A percentage of utility bills, home owners insurance, property taxes, mortgage interest, refinance fees, repairs and maintenance, and cleaning supplies are deductible.

Insurance:  mortgage insurance, vehicle insurance, rental insurance, liability insurance, bob tail insurance, bonds

Interest:  interest paid on business credit cards, business loans, equipment loans,

Outside Services:  money paid to independent drivers

Supplies:   cleaning supplies, keys, locks, gloves, hard hats, straps to tiedown loads

Taxes and Licenses:  business licenses, professional licenses, state and city licenses, property taxes, heavy highway use tax, individual state fees

Meals (while away from home):  truck drivers are allowed $37 per day or actual cost of meals. You must keep all receipts for documentation when using actual cost of meals.

Permits, Tolls and Scales:  amounts paid for toll roads, weigh stations, trip permits, overweight permits

Vehicle Expense:  either (1) actual mileage - picking up office supplies, meals with clients, driving out of town to seminars, shows and conferences, giving out business cards and flyers.  Mileage must be documented with date, purpose and mileage.  OR (2) actual auto expense - fuel, repairs, oil changes as well as depreciation on the vehicle.
